Heartstone Farm Grass Fed Chuck Steaks are a great alternative to more expensive steaks (like Ribeyes and Porterhouses). Chuck steaks require a little more prep than more expensive cuts, but the value makes them worth the effort. You can prepare a delicious chuck steak in the over or slow cooker, but also great for grilling. Just remember, the longer you grill a steak the tougher it will get, so try to cook your steaks medium or medium rare to achieve a tender result.

customer reviews

This is a nice, big, tender and juicy cut with great marbling and lots of flavor.

Nicholas B Cummings Quincy, MA

We love the chuck steak and despite arriving frozen, it still tastes much better than the meat from a grocery store.

Natalya Belozerova Peabody, MA

The chuck steak was fantastic. Great flavor. Seared in a cast iron pan to medium rare.

MARY HUEGEL Knoxville, MD

Chuck steak is always tender and delicious. One of our favorites.

100% Grass-Fed

Our beef is 100% grass fed and grass finished. That means our cattle only eat grass. No corn, no grain, no animal by products -just grass.

In the growing season, they feed on the pastures of our 500 acre farm. In the winter, they eat the hay (grass) we harvested from our fields in the summer.

Beware of supermarket beef labeled "grass fed." Most factory-farmed, supermarket beef is fed grain (mainly corn) in the last few months before slaughter (even when itā€™s labeled ā€œgrass-fedā€). While grain will fatten cattle up quickly, it can also make them sick because grains are not their natural feed.

That's why knowing the farmer who raised your meat is so important.

When we say 100% grass fed we mean 100%.

FAQs

Chuck steak is a cut that is part of theĀ chuck primal, which is a large section of meat from the shoulder area of the cow. This part of the animal gets a lot of exercise, making the muscles somewhat tough. That's why we recommend marinating this cut and cooking it over somewhat lower heat for a longer time than you might cook a more tender cut like a Ribeye.

Chuck steaks require a little more prep than more expensive cuts, but the value makes them worth the effort. You can prepare a deliciousĀ chuck steak in the ovenĀ orĀ slow cooker, but some cuts are great for grilling. Just remember, the more youĀ grill a steakĀ the tougher it will get, so try to stay at medium or medium-rare to achieve a tender result.

We pack your order in ice blankets (and/or dry ice) to insure it arrives frozen. We use insulated boxes (that are completely compostable) as well. There are times when an unforeseen delay with UPS can result in a 1-2 day delay. As long as your meat arrives ā€œrefrigerator coldā€ (lower than 41 degrees) it is safe according to the USDA. In the event that your meat does not arrive frozen or refrigerator cold, let us know. We will replace it or issue you a full credit.

Our beef tends to be a bit more expensive than conventional beef, but we believe that the benefits are well worth it. Our stew meat is not only more nutritious, but it's also raised sustainably and humanely on our own farm. We strive to keep our prices as competitive as possible, while still ensuring that our animals are treated well and our customers receive the highest quality meat. For more, read this blog article.
