Cooking Tips

There are several ways to cook bacon, but the best method depends on personal preference and the equipment available. Here are three methods we've used:

Oven-baked: Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper, and place the bacon on the sheet, making sure not to overlap. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until crispy.

Skillet: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. We prefer cast iron, using a cast iron bacon press. Place the bacon in the pan and cook for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until crispy.

Microwave: This one isn't a favorite, but we're sharing it anyways - Place bacon on a microwave-safe plate lined with paper towels. Cover with another paper towel and microwave on high for 4-6 minutes, depending on the wattage of your microwave, until crispy.

Regardless of the cooking method you choose, it's important to pay attention to the bacon to ensure it doesn't burn. Also, make sure to drain the bacon on paper towels after cooking to remove excess grease.

Farmer Dan's Note

We proudly source our pork from our neighbors, Serendipity Farm. Everything about their operation is different (and better) than conventional pork factory farms - and you can tell by the real pork flavor in everything from the bacon to the pork chops.

FAQs

Yes -our bacon is nitrate-free. Nitrite has long been a controversial food additive, with studies showing it forms carcinogenic compounds called nitrosamines when heated in the presence of proteins, like those in bacon. Regular bacon is cured with nitrite (NO₂) or a virtually identical chemical, nitrate (NO₃).

We have partnered with a neighbor, Serendipity Farm in Bradford, Maine for our all-natural, pasture-raised pork. Serendipity is owned by George Lorette. The pigs are processed at Herring Brothers in Guilford,Maine (the same processor we use for our beef). Herring Brothers is family-owned and USDA inspected.

Our pork is sourced from our neighbor, George Lorette, who owns Serendipity Farm in Bradford, Maine. There are quite a few differences between George's pigs and conventional pigs - including the quality of the living conditions. Supermarket pork is raised in confined feeding operations, where pigs have no access to outdoors for their entire lives. At Serendipity, the pigs have access to outdoors 365 days a year. Serendipity pigs do not receive antibiotics or growth hormones, which are commonly used with conventional pigs.
