Our new number one tip - use a bacon press to get great flat, crispy bacon.
Our number two tip - take the bacon out of the refrigerator at least 15 minutes before cooking.
And follow there easy, straight forward directions:
- Put the bacon in a cool cast iron pan and heat on medium heat.
- Use a bacon press.
- Flip bacon, using tongs, and cook until browned on both sides, about 2 minutes.
- Drain and reserve fat for another use, and repeat with remaining bacon. Drain bacon on paper towels.
Do you put anything in the pan before cooking bacon?
Of course you can! Using the stove to cook just a small amount of bacon makes sense. A good tip: starting the bacon in a cold pan helps render the fat better, resulting in crispier bacon. First, arrange the bacon in a single layer in a cast iron pan or other heavy skillet.
How long do you cook bacon on each side?
About 2 minutes each side.
I love pork. I love bacon.
Well, I should qualify that. I love good pork and good bacon but I hate grocery store pork and bacon.
I've got two problems with grocery store pork.
First, it is bland, flavorless and rubbery.
Second, the pigs come from factory farms where the conditions are inhumane.
I've been on a quest for great pork from a farmer I could trust for months now. And this spring I finally found him. I am over-the-moon thrilled to be able to offer our customers pork that tastes great and was raised humanely from Serendipity Farms in Bradford, Maine.
