HEARTSTONE FARM OPENS RETAIL MEAT MARKET IN DOVER-FOXCROFT
When the Countryside Meat Market closed its doors last spring, the Dover-Foxcroft community lost a long-time source for meat and friendly local service. The owners had retired and the store was up for sale.
But now Heartstone Farm has reopened the market - selling their own grass fed beef every Saturday from 9 to 1.
“The community response has been way beyond what we anticipated,” according to Dan Kaplan of Heartstone Farm. “People come in to try our beef - and they come back because they liked it so much.”
The market will offer the farm’s beef - including ground beef, stew meat, roasts and steaks.
Heartstone Farm sells its beef directly to consumers on its website. “Our business has exploded in the past few months,” Kaplan said. “We’re shipping to hundreds of customers all over the US each month.”
“About half our business is repeat customers - some of whom order from us two or three times a month,” Kaplan said. “There’s a big demand these days for high quality local beef,” he said.
Heartstone Farm beef is also served in a limited number of local restaurants including Blaze in Bangor, The Lost Kitchen in Freedom, Hoxbill in Camden, and Finback Alehouse in Bar Harbor.
The Heartstone Farm Meat Market is located at 1225 Main St., Dover-Foxcroft (next door to Foxcroft Pharmacy). The market is open Saturdays from 9-1 and may expand hours if the demand warrants.
